Dr. Tamar Avineri began her journey at NCSSM in 2004. She will be deeply missed by staff, faculty, students, and alumni of NCSSM but we are so grateful for the two decades that she inspired through teaching mathematics and her dedicated leadership as the chair of the math department (and so much more).

Her legacy will live on through The Dr. Tamar Avineri Legacy Scholarship Fund. Please join us in honoring her life and service to NCSSM by contributing to this fund, newly established by the Avineri family to support scholarship opportunities for students with a deep passion for mathematics.

“When I think of math, I actually rarely think of numbers,” Avineri says, “because there’s so much more to math than actual numbers. When I think about math I think of a puzzle. And logic. Reasoning, with evidence. Math always presents you with the opportunity to find the missing pieces, apply what you know in whatever way your brain works. My job as a teacher is to find a way to teach content that fits with how students think.”
